A boat operator is a person who can handle the boat in most any reasonable situation that may arise while on this team, in a safe and efficient manner. Boat operators should keep their skills up to date and be familiar with CARS boat equipment. To be released as a boat operator the member must accomplish the following:
Go through the boat orientation class.
Perform at least 2 hours of training on flat water. Once the member is finished with the flat water training he should be knowledgeable and proficient in the following:
water rescue techniques
working with divers
safety skills with others in the water
knowledge of local boat and water regulations
Perform at least 1 hour of training on river water. Once the member is finished with the river water training he should be knowledgeable and proficient in the following:
rescue techniques specialized to swift water
working with divers
become knowledgeable and familiar with problems and situations related to swift water and rivers
Prove to be safe and knowledgeable while operating the boat under the guidance of an approved boat operator during a mock situation.
