TRAINING FUNDS

The following is the recommendation for receiving training funds from CARS. You must fill out the training fund reimbursement form and submit it to the Board of Directors before the class takes place. CARS will pay 1/2 of lodging and up to the approved amount for tuition the full amount not to exceed what is approved for your level.
Basic Life Support Personnel (full members only)

After 9 months of membership (3 months of pre-probation and 6 months of probation) to 21 months of full membership and in good standing with the membership bylaws. Alloted a total of $100.00 per year to be spent in an approved medical training activity. Recommended classes are Critical Response and VEHEXT.

From 21 months to retirement and in good standing with membership bylaws. Allotted a total of $360.00 per year to be spent in an approved medical training activity. Recommended classes are Critical Response and EMS Symposium.

BLS to ALS (full members only)

While in good membership standing a basic life support member attempting to advance to advance life support member will receive training funds for all texts that are required by the instructor for EMT-Enhanced or EMT-Intermediate classroom instruction. If the member fails to pass the state requirements for advance life support member, that member must return all funds alloted by the Board of Directors. CARS will pay 1/2 the required tuition up front with the rest paid when the member becomes released.
Estimated costs of TJEMS class (January 2006):

EMT-Enhanced = $450.00 plus cost of text
EMT-Intermediate = $550.00 plus $175.00 for clinical and cost of text (same book as EMT-E)
EMT-Paramedic = $4,760.00 plus costs of texts

Estimated costs of Central Shenandoah EMS Council class:

EMT-Enhanced = $175.00 plus cost of text

Advanced Life Support Personnel (full members only)

While in good standing may have alloted funds totalling $360.00 per year for approved medical training activities. Recommended Critical Response and EMS Symposium.

Class funding for ACLS, PALS, BTLS, BPTLS every other year.

Associate Medical Personnel

Associate medical personnel receive 1/2 the funding for classes that full members receive.
