SPECIAL EVENTS TEAM

The Special Events Medical Management team (SEMM) is charged with stand-by details at large venues (UVA football/basketball games, Foxfield races, etc.) The team uses a computer aided dispatch (CAD) and tracking system developed by one of our members (Rob Schutt).

Special Events Equipment

The Special Events team uses the following apparatus & equipment:

• Support 138 - 2001 Ford F-350XLT SD 4-WD crew cab w/ extended bed and 7.3L Power Stroke diesel.
• Special Events Trailer - 2001 United Trailers 18' trailer 10,000 lb. capacity w/ 2 12,000 BTU AC units. The trailer is divided into a cargo area and work area w/ cabinets for storage.
• 6 EMS bicycles

Each bike team consists of two medics and carries an AED, portable oxygen and first aid equipment. The bikes enable each team to respond to calls more quickly and efficiently, thereby reducing response times and increasing service. The average number of calls per home football game is between 30-40 and the bikes have made a huge difference in keeping the less mobile medic squads in service.
