Requirements to Become A Squad Operator-II

Squad Operator II

The Squad Operator-II (SO-II) is a person who has met all the requirements for SO-I, is able to drive and operate Squad 133, and is allowed to perform heavy and unusual vehicle extrications, industrial rescues, fire suppression support and hazardous materials response support with a minimum of supervision. Squad 133 is the primary vehicle for the following types of incidents:

Heavy vehicle (18-wheeler, school bus, trains, large vehicle, etc.) rescue.
MVA’s that occur on 4-lane highways.
Technical rescue support.
Industrial rescues.
Hazardous materials response support.
Fire suppression support.
All incidents that a squad response is due on other than those listed for Squad 134.
All motor vehicle accidents when Squad 134 is out-of-service.

SO-II’s are expected, but not required, to advance to the next level which is Squad Operator II Trailer when they feel comfortable to do so.

The following checklists are to be completed and signed:

Squad Operator-II skills checklist.
Eight hours of driving time with various drivers.
Final road test to be administered by the preceptor.
Training Requirements:

Be a released Squad Operator I.
Procedure:

Obtain copy of the STOP manual.
Contact the Vehicle Rescue Captain with your desire to enter the program.
Pick a preceptor. This can be any Senior Rescue Technician.
Meet with the preceptor and map out a plan of action to complete the required steps in the required time frame.
